The Buxton Fringe was founded in 1980, originally to provide a complement to the Buxton Festival which ran every July. 37 years on and the Fringe has become a major arts event in its own right – larger than the Festival and the third largest Fringe festival in the UK.Its open-access philosophy has seen it grow to include a mix of big-name comedians, touring theatre companies, as well as local drama societies, arts groups and musicians. In 2016 it comprised of 150 different acts across 34 venues.

In recent years, Buxton has also become hugely popular with Edinburgh Fringe performers looking to preview their work just before the world’s largest arts festival kicks off in August.

Buxton Fringe 2017 will run 5th-23rd July 2017.
