Underground Venues Censorship Policy

Only Smarties Have The Answer in the Pauper's Pit, 2006

Underground are firmly against limiting plays and other forms of art due to traditionally 'taboo' features e.g. swearing / nudity. We equally believe such features should not limit who can see plays. This connects with our belief that art is for all.

In cases where plays contain nudity or scenes of a sexual nature, we will endeavour to make this clear in promotional blurb and urge acts to do the same. As box-office managers, we will endeavour to explicitly warn any parent with children. However, outside of this we believe the choice of whether to see a play or not belongs with the person buying the ticket. We will therefore never REFUSE entry to anyone on the basis of age.

For this reason we feel it is needlessly restrictive to include age limitations in Fringe programme copy or other promotional material
