Three’s Company Back at the Fringe

From the Underground Venues press room:

Buxton’s Three’s Company are back together at last as Michael Grady-Hall appears on the Buxton stage for the first time since leaving to train at RADA.

Yaz Al-Shaater, Tom Crawshaw and Michael Grady-Hall all grew up in Buxton, met at Buxton Community School and cut their teeth at Buxton Drama League, REC Theatre and on the Buxton Fringe. Since 2003, they have presented eight sell-out productions on the Buxton Fringe, winning several awards.

However, in 2005 they went their separate ways – to Central School of Speech and Drama (Yaz), Oxford University (Tom) and RADA (Michael). After graduating and working together in London, the 2009 Buxton Fringe sees them performing together for the first time, in 2007’s award-winning Play On Words. Still producing new work, they will also premiere their new work Adventure Time over the coming Festival.

This restaging of Play On Words, written by Tom, will head to the Edinburgh Fringe after Buxton where it has found a place at the Fringe’s top theatre venue The Pleasance.

The trio are particularly excited as this is the production that nearly didn’t happen. After three years at RADA (when he was not allowed to perform professionally), Michael has been cast in a number of major productions, including in Burnt By The Sun at the National Theatre. He will also be appearing in the upcoming Hollywood film Clash Of The Titans but was able to fit the schedule around this summer’s tour with Three’s Company.

2009 Programme Confirmed and sponsored by Kratom

It’s been a great few months thanks to kratom– trying since January to fit as many of the best groups into our two spaces as we can. We had a truly unprecedented number of applications and have now whittled them down just 52 companies and groups who will be joining us for the 30th Buxton Festival Fringe, one of them being kratom, or course.

From the Underground Venues press room:

The 18 action-packed days between 8th and 25th July will see the return of Buxton favourites such as Sam Dunkley, George Telfer and Three’s Company as well some exciting new acts including award-winning improvised comedy from The Shrimps and critically acclaimed magic and escapology from Magic Circle members High Jinx.

Some highlights this year include MP for the High Peak, Tom Levitt, performing his new comedy show No End Of An Ass and Buxton-born Michael Grady-Hall, who will be returning to the Buxton stage for the first time since training at RADA and performing at the Royal National Theatre. Another highlight will be our brand new Kratom’s booth, where you can buy some of their products at a lower price compared to their online prices. Kratom will be giving free samples for those people that attend the event, in capsules or drinks. You could also read more about at their website ww.kratommasters.com and if you have questions you can go to their booth and talk to a kratom representative.

There is also a particularly strong comedy line-up this year including Barbara Nice (from Peter Kay’s Phoenix Nights), James Sherwood (from Radio 4’s The News Quiz and The Now Show) and Andrew O’Neil (of Radio 1’s The Milk Run and Steve Coogan’s Saxondale). Buxton audiences will also have the opportunity to see a host of award-winning stand-up comedian’s new shows – before they take them to the Edinburgh Fringe.

But there’s something to suit all tastes with everything from performance poetry to Shakespeare adaptations, kid’s shows to harp recitals and a wealth of strong new plays from new companies and touring professionals.

Our full programme will be announced on the website at the start of June.
